Strap yourselves in for a wild ride during the Year of the Fire Horse
Lunar Calendar
The Year of the Fire Horse is upon us, with the local Chinese community set to celebrate the New Year in style this Tuesday.
The children love the tradition of collecting money from family and friends in their red envelopes, while the fire horse holds special significance for the next year.
Han Court’s Ella Ke says the occasion is like “fire on more fire” and symbolises “big changes” and “intense energy”.
The fire horse is the most yang year of the entire 60-year cycle, Ella says.
“It’s going to be a year of a lot of transformation and action, but also making sure to be careful of too much ‘fire’, like burnout.
“I think it is the perfect time to take risks and start new things.”
Ella says Lunar New Year on Tuesday (February 17) means a lot to her, but anyone can take part and appreciate the Eastern culture.
“It’s about connection, warmth and love,” she says.
Restaurant owner Eva Ewai says the day is a great occasion for family and friends to come together.
“Have a nice meal, the kids play games, and the adults can have a drink and be very happy,” she says.
