A Mount Molloy family is being wrapped in community support as their two-year-old daughter fights her way through a serious medical battle.

Phoebe, the youngest child of Coen and Josie, was born with Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy, and has already endured more hospital stays than most children her age.

Just days after her second birthday, Phoebe’s condition took a sudden and frightening turn. On 13 January, she was rushed to hospital with sepsis, placed into a medically induced coma, and flown from Cairns to Townsville for intensive care.

Phoebe is now showing encouraging signs of improvement, but she still faces a long recovery ahead, with her parents by her side while also caring for her older sister, Cilla.

In response, the local community has rallied behind the family to help ease the mounting costs associated with medical treatment, travel, accommodation and everyday living expenses.

Fundraiser raffle 30 January

An online fundraiser has already raised $12,000 towards a $14,000 goal, with community support continuing to grow.

Further fundraising efforts are underway, including a local raffle being held this Friday, 30 January, at the Mount Molloy Pub, with all proceeds going directly to the family.

A number of Douglas Shire businesses have already generously donated prizes, with further donations still being welcomed.

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase from 10am at the Mount Molloy Pub and sold throughout the day, with the draw starting at 8pm.

The online fundraiser can be found here.
