New Mossman business brings independence and care closer to home

Living in our remote corner often means travelling to Cairns for the essentials or relying on online orders, which is why having mobility and homecare equipment available locally can make all the difference.
That need led Nathan Williamson to establish Pro Health Solutions Mobility & Cares, a dedicated mobility and homecare shop in Mossman, bringing essential solutions closer to home for the wider Douglas Shire.
With more than 35 years’ experience in the health industry, Nathan recognised the demand firsthand and knew the community needed a local solution.
“A lot of people here simply can’t travel to Cairns due to mobility, transport or cost,” Nathan said.
“I opened the shop for the community, to remove that stress and make sure people can access the equipment and support they need to live safely and independently, close to home.”
Real life showroom
Located at 45 Front Street in Mossman, the shop and showroom are designed as welcoming, practical spaces where people can take their time and try equipment in a real-life setting.
The range includes a broad selection of mobility and homecare equipment, from walkers and wheelchairs to adjustable beds and bathroom safety aids, supporting both short-term recovery and longer-term mobility needs.
“We’ve created a mock living room and bathroom so customers can actually sit in a recliner, try a shower chair or test bathroom aids as if they were at home,” Nathan said.
“It gives people confidence that what they’re choosing will work for them.”
Affordability is a strong focus, with the business matching Cairns pricing so locals aren’t paying extra for living regionally and often saving on travel and delivery costs.
Even when items aren’t immediately in stock, the team is committed to sourcing what people need as quickly as possible through regular deliveries and reliable suppliers.
“It’s very simple, if we don’t have it, we’ll get it,” Nathan said.
Built for the community
Since opening in December 2025, the response from the community has been strong, highlighting just how essential the service has already become.
“One example was helping a family source specific equipment so their loved one could be discharged from hospital sooner,” Nathan said.
“Once the hospital was notified that the equipment was available, their loved one was able to come home.”
Beyond the showroom, the business offers hands-on support including home demonstrations, delivery, and equipment fitting to suit individual needs, along with local servicing and repairs to keep equipment safe and reliable.
The team also offers transport services to assist people attending medical or general appointments, both locally and in the Cairns area.
Expanding local support
Looking ahead, Pro Health Solutions Mobility & Cares will soon introduce short- and long-term equipment hire, offering flexible options for recovery, temporary needs or trialling equipment.

In the longer term, Nathan hopes to grow the business into a small allied health hub, with space for visiting physiotherapists or occupational therapists to provide in-house clinical support.
For now, the focus remains on meeting the needs of the Douglas Shire community, keeping essential services local and supporting people to live safely and independently, close to home.
