One unlucky spouse may not be too popular with their other half right now after apparently misplacing their wedding ring in a car that had been hired out.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the ring was found last Thursday (January 15) in a northbound hire car travelling to Cairns.

The wedding band has the date May 16, 2015, engraved on the inside, as well as a circular indentation on the outside of the simple silver-coloured design.

The rightful owner will need to show identification and proof of ownership to claim the ring.

If you have information about this ring, contact police link on 131 444.
