A Mount Molloy man and a Mareeba man have been charged with kidnapping, extortion and drug-trafficking offences following an extensive police investigation involving the Far Northern Major and Organised Crime Squad and the Cairns, Tablelands and Smithfield CIBs.

The 36-year-old from Mount Molloy and 31-year-old from Mareeba were arrested on Wednesday following reports on Thursday, January 22, that a woman had been kidnapped and extorted by a man known to her at a Machans Beach home.

Police allege one of the men is an associate of the Lone Wolf bikie gang and was involved with trafficking methylamphetamine.

Officer in charge of the Major and Organised Crime Squad Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Trent Odmark said police will continue targeting outlaw-motorcycle-gang members and drug trafficking.

“We are committed to reducing the movement of dangerous drugs in our community and the violence associated with it,” he said.

“Our officers are constantly working to disrupt this activity and bring offenders before the court, and we ask anyone in the community with information about this kind of offending to please come forward.”

On Wednesday, police raided five homes in Mareeba, Mount Molloy, Trinity Beach and Machans Beach and allegedly found methylamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis and drug utensils.
