SPORT DIGEST: Douglas Shire cricketer makes the Under-19 World Cup

Douglas Shire junior cricketer Kai Wall has been having one of the experiences of his young life across the past few weeks playing for the Japanese team at the Under-19 World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Wall, who plays for Barron River in the Cricket Far North Third Grade competition, opened the bowling in several matches for the Japan Under-19s, taking two wickets against West Indies in one of the lead-up matches.
Japan finished 13th in the 16-team competition, including a drubbing of Tanzania in the final match.
The Australian Under-19s are looking good to go deep into the competition, being still undefeated at Newsport press time.
The young quick would have been well primed for the global event after taking three wickets against the Muddies Thirds in the last game before he jetted out.
In the Cricket Far North competition this week, the Muddies Thirds are set to face Mareeba in Mareeba this Saturday from 1pm, while the Fourths are up against Atherton at home in Port Douglas from 12.30pm, weather permitting.
