YOU SAID IT! Boaties raise questions over marina closure
LETTERS AND COMMENTS

Then they would of cried if a cyclone would of hit.

Vessels from Closehaven marina did move. There was only about 8 remaining, 4 of those had mechanical issues and couldn’t move. What was really sad was seeing some very expensive vessels from Crystalbrook tying off between council poles (which those pole lease holders pay a lot of money for), dropping massive anchors and chain on already existing vessels lines and tenders flying up and down the creek exceeding way over the 6knt no wash limit. There was at least some community spirit with some local yacht owners helping many vessels set lines and providing a ride back down the inlet once their vessel was tied up securely.

Genuine question, are people covered under Places of Refuge: International law and national policies (like Australia's) address a ship's right to seek refuge in distress, balancing humanitarian needs with a coastal state's right to protect its environment, often involving bodies like AMSA. Regulatory Bodies: Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) administer these laws, providing guidance and enforcing compliance. Enforcement: Breaches can lead to infringement notices, fines, or even imprisonment, emphasizing the serious nature of compliance.

After 30 years and multiple cyclones, it's time the marina stopped it's self serving panic and let boat stay in their berths and not once has a destructive wave got anywhere near the marina. People need to learn from the past... you have a safe cyclone harbour as it is... stop forcing boat owners on small boats to move... it has not been necessary from the day the marina was built.

Those cyclone parties up the inlet on phantom and reel screamer were pretty good though back in the day Rod, but yeah, agree with you, let boaties be boaties.

Rod Davis yes yes I saw Marlin marina flattened in the ‘90s. The then harbour master made the call, zero boats wrecked all up trinity inlet just like this time one would think the marina at Hinchinbrook was safe, but it destroyed all boats apart from the 3 that tied to mangroves. Then there's Airlie Beach a few smashed this time. Last few cyclones a lot destroyed if they remained and got smashed. All it takes is one come loose, they all stack up and wreck the next and the next. Then they would blame the marina. I bet all the commercial fishing fleet went up the mangroves as far as they could, and there's no crying about inconvenience. That's because they understood every weather event could be destructive, wind, tide surges ,a tiny inconvenience and usual complaints from a few Karenistas of today's society.

You mentioned in your article that no boat owners in the Closehaven Marina moved their boats, which is not true. A number of us boat owners (not all ) did move our boats as expected. Not having a go at you, just want to clarify this. I also think this is bulls**t. On both sides, the call for the closure and the rules for some and not others regarding moving your boats.

Great, but are there any plans for a late night venue? Are there any bars or nightclubs in town open late, particularly on weekends?

Bring back Silvers nightclub!

The young ones must be dying of boredom these days, we were very spoilt for choice with good night life here- 25-30 years ago.

Let’s hope they allow teenagers in too, nothing to do for our youth that’s why they all can’t wait to get out of here.

It would be great if they could have a full size snooker/billiards table as well. At present, there are no full size tables anywhere nearby.

It would be so beneficial to this area if it went ahead. There are many of us still grieving the demise of Redbacks after all these years. Hope everyone looks at the positives rather than dwelling on what they perceive as negatives.

Same company have done a good job with Daintree Beach Resort.

Just like the failed Japanese resort years ago north of Yeppoon!
