A 28-year-old man who was shot by police during an incident in Mount Sheridan late Saturday afternoon, July 25, will face court today.

The man faces a series of charges, including one of going armed to cause fear after the high drama incident on Foster Road around 5.10pm on Saturday.

The circumstances of the incident, in which an innocent female bystander, 50, also sustained a gunshot wound from a police revolver, are being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.

On their arrival, police knocked the alleged offender to the ground with a police vehicle and when he refused repeated police directions to drop the weapons - two knives he had grabbed when fleeing a house he had allegedly tried to rob -  he was shot twice in the elbow and once in the upper leg. 

Three police discharged their weapons, it was revealed by Assistant Commissioner for Far Northern Region Graeme Paine in a press conference on Sunday.

Questions have been raised by the Queensland Police Union how it was the man, who was allegedly wielding a knife to trigger police fire, was released from hospital just hours before the incident.

Queensland Police Union president Shane Prior has questioned whether the man received an appropriate mental health assessment after he was caught allegedly jumping on cars naked the previous evening. 

It will be alleged around 5.10pm Saturday afternoon, police officers were called following several reports of an armed robbery at a Pumila Close property and an attempted armed robbery on Benjamina Street.
