Raise a glass for local kids at Wine Luncheon ahead of Sorensen Cup
LOCAL CHARITY
Excitement is building across the Douglas Shire as the 2026 Brian Sorensen Cup prepares to hit the greens at Palmer Sea Reef on Sunday, August 16, and locals still have time to grab remaining tickets for the Friday Wine Luncheon.
Following an incredible response that saw player spots for the golf day fill to total capacity, locals can still be part of the action by securing tickets to the Next Green Group Wine Luncheon on Friday, August 14 at Salsa Bar & Grill.
Every ticket sold directly supports KIND (Kids in Need), an incredible local charity that provides crucial assistance to Douglas Shire families navigating difficult medical circumstances with their children.
Serving as the official kickoff to the charity weekend, the event features an elegant four-course lunch paired with expertly matched wines
“KIND literally steps in to support local families as their children go through horrific medical situations," said organisers.
“It means so much to us to raise as much as we possibly can for them through this event."
Following the Friday luncheon, all eyes will turn to the course on Sunday, where 24 registered teams will compete for the coveted trophy.
Adding to the weekend’s energy, major sponsor Next Green Group will host their popular 'Par-Tee Marquee' right on the green.
Golfers will also have their sights set on a life-changing prize: $20,000 cash for the first hole-in-one on the 15th hole.
Despite being up for grabs for the past five years, the jackpot remains unclaimed, leaving the door wide open for someone to make local history.
In addition to raising funds for KIND during Friday's lunch, the weekend will cap off with the live announcement of this year's community grant recipients during Sunday's post-game presentations, distributing thousands of dollars back into local non-profits, sporting groups, and community clubs.
