The Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club nippers’ program is in full swing now, with some graduates receiving their Surf Rescue Certificates on the weekend.

Nippers is open for children aged 5-14, with activities running on Sundays from 9.30am-11.30am until October.

Soccer

The Douglas United Dragons have beaten Edge Hill twice in four days in a strange quirk of the Far North Community Division One soccer draw.

Douglas United ran out 4-1 winners against the Cairns-based team last night in Cairns after beating the same team 3-0 on Friday night at home in Cassowary Park.

Monday night’s game was a catch-up round after the match was postponed earlier in the season.

The draw meant the Dragons played Edge Hill twice on the same weekend. Goalscorers for United across the two games included Javier Puertos with three and Matias Martinez.

The team has this weekend off to help recover.

Rugby union

The Reef Raiders went down to the Northern Beaches Mudcrabs 14-24 at home on Saturday.

Try scorers were Barry O’Toole and Harrison Davis, while Luke Edwards converted both kicks.

This Saturday the Raiders are away to the Southside Crusaders.

Rugby league

Mossman Sharks lost to Cairns Brothers 4-44 in Cairns on the weekend, with Elijah Wallis the sole point scorer.

This Saturday the Sharks are away to the Kangaroos.

In a strange coincidence, the women’s team also lost 4-44 against the Kangaroos, with Keasharn Sands-Hart scoring the try.

AFL

Country Queensland lost both the men’s and women’s games to Sydney/Canberra on the weekend, with the men going down by 68 points and the women by 38.

The selected teams included Douglas Shire-linked players Shay Linke, Jacob Zboril, Tom Cantwell, Ben McPhee, Caity McPhee, Ella Jones and Luca Roulstone.
