Douglas locals set out on sporting trip of a lifetime

As the soccer World Cup hits full stride in the US, Canada and Mexico, a pair of Douglas Shire locals are celebrating the sporting fans’ trip of a lifetime.
Michael Perry and friend Daniel O’Brien are in North America for the world’s biggest sporting event, and are all set to meet up for tomorrow morning’s 5am game (Australia time) to witness the Socceroos take on the main tournament host the US in Seattle.
“I’m pumped, can’t wait, counting the days,” Perry told Newsport before he flew out.
“It’s just the whole experience, the atmosphere, the World Cup.”
And Australia will have to be on its game after the US trounced Paraguay 4-1 in their first game in front of a parochial home crowd.
But the Socceroos were also impressive on Sunday, beating Turkey 2-0, so it’s shaping up as a crucial battle in the group.
You can watch the game Saturday morning from 5am at Dougie’s Backpackers or the Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course clubhouse.
