Following its triumphant return last year after a 30-year hiatus, the revived Mossman Show Ball is officially back for its second consecutive year on Saturday, July 4, and is being hosted this year by the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort at the Glade.

Building on the incredible momentum of last year's comeback and by popular demand, the committee is proud to continue this resurrected tradition, uniting residents of all ages from across the shire.

While last year's grand return took place at the Mossman Shire Hall, organisers are bringing the event to Port Douglas for this second edition to elevate the community celebration.

The evening honours the rich agricultural and pioneering heritage of the region while looking directly ahead to the future of local industries. 

A central focus is recognising and supporting the next generation of rural leaders through the Young Rural Ambassadors program, which enters its third year as a core part of the event. 

This represents a modern evolution for the gala; while the ball was famously all about the Mossman Show Queens back in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, the focus has now firmly shifted to introducing these passionate young ambassadors to their community.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scommazon said that keeping the tradition alive is essential for our community.

“We’ve lost our sugar industry, but the show has stood as a major event for our shire for many years,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

Gala details

Guests will enjoy a premium three-course dining experience prepared by the Sheraton Mirage, featuring antipasto platters, a delicious buffet, and a dedicated dessert station. 

Live entertainment for the evening will be provided by popular local band Viva Moss Vegas.
