“My word, they were all so good!” exclaimed Tim, a resident at Ozcare, who today was treated to some stellar performances from the students of Music with Joanne Trewick.
Ranging in age from five to 14 years, the local young musicians performed wind, string, and keyboard pieces with verve, grace, and professionalism.
As the musical notes filled the reception area, it almost felt as though each one rested gently upon the residents. The change in their expressions was unmistakable—a glimmer in the eye followed by a quick upturn of the lips into a smile.
The importance of local community involvement in aged care was emphasised by Linda, Activities Officer at Ozcare in Port Douglas. In particular, she noted how facilitating intergenerational programs helps foster “engagement and wellbeing in accordance with aged care residential standards.”
In a small town like Port Douglas, in-house volunteers can be hard to come by, so the residents of Ozcare are always grateful for community involvement of this kind.
Max Walker and Lorcán Hudson, both five years old and the youngest performers of the day, were proud of their keyboard duets Rainbows and Coconuts.
Nate Hancock, Douglas Shire’s very own virtuoso pianist at just 13 years old, left the audience in awe with his rendition of Rondo alla Turca.
