The latest developments taking place in Port Douglas
Shire industry
Some prominent developments in Port Douglas are beginning to move along, with works starting at two sites along Port Douglas Road and excavations starting at another one in Craiglie.
Works have started on a $1.6m nine-lot housing-block project at 368-380 Port Douglas Road, Port Douglas, near the Old Port Road turn-off.
The current entrance road to the property will be moved further towards town so there is more space between the entry and the Old Port Road turn-off.
The development, being overseen by engineers ARO Industries, was approved by Douglas Shire Council last month and includes eight blocks varying in size between 900-1500sq m, plus the house that is already there.
Further up the road near the Sheraton roundabout, C&M Contracting has started work on the new $2.6m 3m-wide Port Douglas Road cycling-and-walking path, which is set to stretch all the way to about 300m past the Barrier Street roundabout.
In that same spot, at 71-85 Port Douglas Road, all the previous signage about the former $300m luxury resort plan has been taken down in preparation to start working on a new about 40-home housing estate called Sanctuary Greens.
The council and developer Seymour Land are still working through some planning issues for that development, including how the estate access road is going to impact the new cycling path and what is happening with the trees and other vegetation on the property.
On Boer Street, Craiglie, excavators have begun moving soil around at that site.
About $1.6m worth of works are expected for a new industrial estate being designed and constructed through the OSE Group and KAN Developments, with the latest plans showing the number of allotments may be reduced from 17 to 13 to allow for better drainage.
