Issues for Daintree residents as a result of the floods have prompted a series of community pop-ups by Douglas Shire Council.

Douglas Shire Council is coordinating a series of community recovery pop-ups to help residents access disaster hardship assistance.

The Australian and Queensland Governments have activated Personal Hardship Assistance for targeted parts of the Douglas Shire, including numerous locations north of the Daintree River, following recent flooding.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said that while the Daintree Ferry had dominated attention, Council had remained focused on ensuring affected communities can access the support they need.

“Restoring the Daintree Ferry has been grabbing the headlines, but beyond the cables and inspections, we haven’t forgotten about you — our community,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“Council has been working behind the scenes to make sure support is ready when you need it. We’ve organised community recovery pop-ups in Daintree Village from tomorrow and at locations north of the river from Sunday, where service providers will be available to help identify what hardship assistance could be available to you.

“Please come along and speak with the support teams about what options may apply to your situation. Let’s make sure our communities get the help they need.”

The pop-ups will bring Queensland Government Community Recovery officers and other service providers directly into affected communities to help residents understand their eligibility and lodge applications for:

• Emergency Hardship Assistance

• Essential Services Hardship Assistance

• Essential Household Contents Grants

• Structural Assistance Grants

• Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme

Information about grant eligibility is also available at Tropical Low 29U and related flooding March 2026 | Community support | Queensland Government or via the Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.
