Around grounds
The Grand Final match has arrived.
Matt and Joe will play against Dave and Rhys on Pebble Beach across 18 holes of Matchplay Ambrose in the Grand Final of the Daddyshack league.
Matt and Joe outplayed Doug and Jamie in the first semifinal by getting three points on the first five holes, followed by a four-pointer on the par five 15th hole on Augusta.
A par on the 16th hole was enough to get them the victory.
In the second semi Dave and Rhys continued their great play against the early ladder leaders Tim and Peter.
The match was tight, and both teams hit the ball to a few feet on the 16th hole for birdies.
The early holes got them the win, as both teams scored the same down the closing stretch.
Rugby league
Mossman Sharks went down to Yarrabah Sea Hawks 20-32 in the first round of the Far North Queensland Rugby League competition on the weekend.
Former Innisfail Leprechaun Kieshon Hunter-Flanders scored two tries, while Latrell Heard and Jarvis Connolly both finished with one.
Hunter-Flanders only managed one of four conversions, but did make a penalty kick.
This Saturday Mossman hosts Tully Tigers from 6pm at Coronation Park.
Tully lost to Innisfail 8-28 in the opening round.
Soccer
Douglas United’s opening round last Friday night against Stratford Dolphins was postponed due to the weather.
The Division Two team is at home at Cassowary Park near Mossman this Friday night from 6.30pm against Redlynch Strikers, while the Division One side is away to Mareeba at 8.30pm.
AFL Cairns
The Port Douglas trial game against Cairns Saints last weekend was also cancelled, but the club played an internal trial with a mix of A-graders and B-graders on each team.
The pink team got out to an early lead, but the blue team came home strong to win on the day.
The season launch is on Saturday night, while the club’s opening game is on Easter Friday at home against North Cairns Tigers from 2pm.
The Crocs women also play the Tigers that day from 10.15am.
