The Douglas Shire community is waking to the news that much respected long term local doctor, Dr John Archer, has died.

News of Dr Archer’s death is confirmed by the Port Douglas Medical Centre with a recorded message advising patients of the sudden death yesterday of the doctor who served the community for more than 30 years.

The message advises the medical centre staff are supporting his family, patients and staff impacted by the sudden death.

Last month another long term doctor, Dr Louise Bleier died of breast cancer.

As one of the founders of New Horizons for Health, Dr Bleier served the region as a dedicated practitioner for many years, leaving a lasting impact on local healthcare and the families she cared for.
