It’s interesting that it’s not uncommon to come across traffic restrictions in and around Cairns with no obvious work taking place. Signs have just been left out and not collected. In South Australia the state government took action on this after continued complaints and it's now illegal and carries large fines for the contractors.

Andy Cook

Time to build that bridge because the next cyclone going to wipe it all out again if one truly hits then we are stuck with the same problems again but yes those workers are doing their job and it’s not an easy fix so just chill take ya time you will get there better than not getting there at all.

Karl Castles

I have to admit it's downright frustrating having no passing lane the whole way. One is open but restricted to 60. No excuse for abuse though, the boy's are just doing their job.

Ross Goode

It is getting very frustrating from a local perspective. I drive to my customers anywhere between Townsville and the Cape and out to the Gulf. Three of the major roads out of Cairns have had roadworks going on for 2 1/2 years and this adds at least an extra 30 minutes on any return trips to the Tablelands or Port. I am forced to wear the cost of this out of my own pocket and not to mention extra time away from my family.

If you can't see what work is being done, look up chaps. They could be hanging off the side of the cliff stabilising huge, jagged, heavy rocks.

Jo Black

Honestly this isn’t the worst travel around FNQ - try getting from Cairns to Mission Beach.

Here's a radical idea - how about dropping tobacco excise? Article on the news today that 30% of bottle shops are now stocking dodgy spirits because the excise is too high. What doesn't the government get?

One shuts and 10 more open in homes and backyards, ha ha worse than playing keystone cops.

Why not throw that money at stamping out the LEGAL gambling, tobacco and alcohol industry as well... they do SANCTIONED HARM currently.

Steve Mac

What a waste of money.

Perfect - will allow construction of the new bridge while allowing the ferry to operate. Two span bridge will do it easily.

Marc Dennis

There is to be a new ferry! It should stretch from the north side to the south side and go up n down with the tide.

Lester Port

As a traditional owner from Julaymba (aka Daintree) area please just build a bridge doesn’t need to be like the Golden Gate but I dunno start it at cross roads turn off to Cape Kimberly road a long bridge but reason I say is because that’s all flood plain between those areas and the last big flood showed it.

Andy Jay

Bridge means development… The Gondwana ecosystem is incredibly important, both environmentally and culturally.

Skipper Tim

People have enough trouble when loading the ferry from one lane. Loading two lanes at a time let’s see how many accidents occur on the ferry and a high potential for deckhands to be seriously injured or killed. Not to mention confusion with all those lines on the roadway and international drivers or non locals that will head the wrong way.

Wayne Branden

More traffic means more road kill of cassowary. However a bridge would destroy everything that makes the Daintree unique. Those poor suburban souls who need every mod con are welcome to live in Brisbane.
