A big Douglas Shire welcome for our newest citizens

More than 20 people from a broad range of backgrounds were this month sworn in as new Australian citizens during a ceremony in Port Douglas.
The cohort included people from Ireland, France, Argentina, Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, the Philippines, the UK, the US, New Zealand, Germany, China, Mongolia, Scotland, Italy and the Netherlands.
A Douglas Shire spokesperson said the council was proud to host a citizenship ceremony at the Port Douglas Community Hall for 22 people, with Mayor Lisa Scomazzon and other councillors attending.
“We are delighted to welcome you as Australian citizens and valued members of the Douglas community,” the spokesperson said.
