A man is injured, three cars have been crushed, and three more cars have sustained damage after a massive tree fell down in Macrossan Street this afternoon.
At about 2pm, the injured man was being attended to by ambulance officers with non-life-threatening injuries, while the bewildered apparent owner of the first car in line was looking on amazed as firies inspected the vehicle, which had an about 1m-wide tree trunk weighing down the rear section.
The further away from the tree base, the less severe the car damage, with the seventh car centimetres away from damage.
The driver of that car told Newsport: “Missed me by that much,” gesturing with his two fingers about how relieved he was to avoid any damage.
The incident happened as squally weather hit the town, including some strong gusts of wind, as well as rain.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area from Grant Street to the Court House Hotel, with the Coles side of the road completely blocked and police directing traffic on the other side.
In a just-released statement, Queensland police said: "Police are currently on scene at Macrossan Street after a large tree fell onto several vehicles outside the Coles. Both lanes are closed, motorists and pedestrians are urged to avoid the area."
