Malone's snags Aussie Gold
Competition Success
Excuse anyone of the team at Malone’s Butchery Port Douglas for being Aussie proud for a while, they have just snagged gold for their Aussie snag.
The Port Douglas Malone’s team has just scooped a dozen awards at the Queensland AMIC Sausage & Burger King Competition.
And while they didn’t snag a King Crown this year, Malone’s had a cracking strike rate, entering 17 products for 12 awards, eight of the 12 sausages and four of the five burger styles picking up a placing.
But most satisfying was likely the gold for best Australian Beef Sausage, with a second Gold coming in the Italian category for their The Godfather, a chunky Italian sausage.
With more than 580 entries from across Queensland, Greig and Jason headed to the Gold Coast for the Awards Night, to represent the Port Douglas Malone’s team.
The gongs kept on coming with the team picking up second placings for: Traditional Pork Sausage; Butter Chicken Sausage; Penang Chicken Sausage; Texan Cheeseburger; Lamb, Mint, Rosemary, Halloumi, Feta & Almond Burger; and the Middle Eastern Lamb Burger.
Third placings were awarded for: Bangalow Bacon Canadian Maple Sausage; Chicken, Bacon, Cheese & Jalapeño Sausage; Lamb Merguez Sausage; and Smokey Malone Brisket Burger.
Each category awards a Sausage or Burger King as the category champion, followed by 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
“We didn’t quite snag a King Crown this year, but having 12 of our 17 entries recognised against some of Queensland’s best butchers is a result the entire team is extremely proud of,’’ Greig Rodgers said.
“A huge congratulations to all the other butchers, businesses and teams involved, and especially this year’s King winners. The standard of competition was outstanding, and it was great to be part of such a strong showcase of our industry.’’
The Malone’s team also thanked their huge customer base for supporting the local butcher and giving them the drive to create some outstanding products.
