Police appeal for witnesses after 81-year-old man assaulted in Port Douglas

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam vision following an incident in Port Douglas on September 3.
Officers were driving on Port Douglas Road around 10.30am when they observed an 81-year-old man lying on the side of the road.
Initial investigations indicate the man had pulled over to purchase bananas from a stall, when he was approached by an unknown male.
The men reportedly became involved in a short verbal altercation, before the unknown male pushed the 81-year-old man, stole the bananas and fled in a grey vehicle, north on Port Douglas Road.
The 81-year-old man was transported to Mossman Hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or CCTV from Port Douglas Road on the morning of Thursday, September, 3 to come forward.
