The vibrant, shifting light of Far North Queensland is taking center stage from October 2 to 10 with Northern Illumination, a new exhibition from local non-profit collective Port Douglas Artists Inc.

Hosted at the Douglas Shire Community Hall on Mowbray Street, the showcase will be open daily from 10.00am to 4.30pm.

Curated by local artist Chrissie McLaughlin, Northern Illumination explores light in all its forms; from the glare of tropical sunlight and soft moonlight shadows to themes of inner transformation and cultural identity. 

The exhibition spans a vast array of mediums, including painting, ceramics, photography, sculpture, drawing, mixed media, and digital art.

The lineup features prominent local talent, including Lethbridge 2026 award finalists Leanne Emmitt and Tim Ellis. Ceramic art lovers can look forward to stunning pieces from Sam Mathews Moon, Caroline Walker Grime, Gabrielle Cooney, Laini Eckardt, Jeanette Warwick, and Pauline Bladin.

Visitors will also experience dynamic paintings by Gail Shaw, Janet Morris, Rod Sherlock, Jacqueline Joosen, Jacki Elms, Lou Derry, Sue Gilmore, Kathi Klinger, Victoria Park, Terry Johnson, Tania Heben, and Donna Ward, alongside innovative digital and paper creations from David Starlyte, Perrin Clarke and Leandro Furlanetto.

The community is invited to celebrate the launch at the official opening event on Thursday, October 1 at 5.30pm. 

The evening offers a chance to meet the artists, enjoy opening remarks, and purchase original artworks, with a cash bar available.
