I think an important point here is that 5 years ago the price difference was 4-5c/L now it’s is up to 22c - why? More price gouging probably, it seems to be spreading like an infectious disease up here.

Keegan Busmer

What's your time worth and the wear and tear on your vehicle just pay the difference and get over it

Neil Jabs

Don’t buy fuel in Port Douglas at all. The price difference is now up to 30 cents a litre difference. A 75 litre tank that’s $22.50 cheaper in Cairns. Price gouging in Port Douglas - heck yeah !! Just fuel up in Cairns. Rip off the tourists in Port Douglas and get away with it.

Here we go funding to support carbon credits ? Who gets the money ? These groups , all the directors & cronies, just another takie on , just wasted funding.

Mandy Jason Wasley

I'm sure we have businesses up here locally that can do the job, don't need other states to help us.

Harry Frazer

Instead how about every person in the Daintree area receives the money instead of this waste of time.

Rainforest rate rebate on chopping block

A great step in the right direction towards getting rid of these so called not for profit organisations (who's CEOs pay themselves 600k annually) that have already bought a large percent of the available blocks north of the river . They pledged to return the land to traditional owners (CYPAL) or to the state forestry reserves but to date have not done so . This move might motivate them but I doubt it . The State just agreed to a $1.2 million grant for Rainforest Rescue who are one of if not the biggest organisations ripping off its donors, council and its benefactors. These so called conservation organisations make a mockery of the Douglas Shire council every time they run a fund raising campaign by implying that the land is in danger of imminent wholesale clearing and the only way to stop it is to buy the land. They are implying that all the state, council and federal laws are not being enforced by our council and the locals are all chainsaw loving nature haters. Here's an idea, why not put extra rates on any of the blocks held by conservation organisations if they haven't fulfilled their current pledges to return the land to state or CYPAL?

Fanbloodytastic article Lawrence Mason!! Wow. Finally telling it how it is and calling for some accountability!!

Steve Doble

Well documented and commented again Lawrence Mason. Ground hog day continues relentlessly no matter who represents the constituent under Douglas Shire Council. It is an impoverished culture and has not changed in the twenty years I’ve lived here, leave alone over your family’s heritage. No respect. No care. No understanding.

Jen Sternbeck

Truer words were never spoken Lawrence I think everyone who lives here - and probably many that don’t - saw that article and their blood began to boil A true kick in the guts and those councillors should be ashamed.

Jenny Atkins

Very well said Lawrence. Having had a G G grandfather as one of the original directors of the mill, 2 sons and a daughter who list their jobs with the closure, family who own canefarms, it makes me wonder how we get rid of this group of 5 early. They have no idea and I honestly think they really dont give a dam about any of this shire unless it makes them feel good.

Michael McCall

Let's just throw a truck load of money on a bike track that when it rains will be washed away . It's already happened. Is nobody getting the email? Muppets . They just waste so much of taxpayers’ money.
