Port Douglas Tennis Club is entering a new era with a brand-new committee determined to grow the club bigger and better. While the PDTC has been pottering along and filling a need for local players of all ages, change is in the wind with a membership drive and bold new plans to increase their court space.

Club President Glen Brumby has told Newsport the club has upped the ante and written to the Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport Stirling Hinchliffe and Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr advising that building a fourth court is the clubs highest priority. 

“We’d like to host larger events to bring more players to Port Douglas and a fourth court is the first step in doing that,” said Mr Brumby.

Mr Brumby went on to say the club has received very positive signs from the State and Local Government “The Minister’s office has alerted us to a range of grant opportunities and government contacts, also Mayor Kerr has already reached out to us by sending a representative to meet the new Committee” he said.

Sponsorship deal

The Committee has approved a comprehensive sponsorship program for local businesses with tailored offerings and three levels of recognition - Platinum, Gold, and Silver.

An excited Mr Brumby said “Immediately upon the program becoming available Andrew Grey from local seafood restaurant Wrasse and Roe and his partner Carolyn Graham representing Saltwater Commercial signed up for the Platinum package which is the largest ever sponsorship deal the club has ever struck” 

Club championships

To add to the excitement the Club Championships are scheduled for 8-10 July and Secretary Rana Dadpour is now publishing a regular Newsletter which is available on the PDTC Facebook page. The club is hosting social tennis evenings on Tuesdays at 6pm and Fridays at 6.30pm.

For more competitive players on Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm. Non-members are welcome to come along at a nominal cost of $10.
