The Crocs, pictured here during a recent tussle against the Hawks will need to be at their very best to beat the Lions this Saturday in Port Douglas.

Port Douglas heads into its biggest match of the year this Saturday afternoon knowing it will require close to four quarters of almost perfect footy to down the all-conquering Cairns City Lions.

After 10 rounds no team has been able to beat the defending AFL Cairns premiers, Saints came close a few weeks’ back, but surrendered a seven-goal advantage to be pipped late in the fourth quarter.

The Crocs warmed upcoming Lions showdown with a strong performance at the weekend, easily accounting for the ever-improving Tigers 21-19-145 to 5-10-40.

In blustery conditions at Watsons Oval, Crocs led by 11 points at quarter time and by 66 points at the main break.

The Crocs piled on a further 10 goals after half time to eventually win by a comfortable 105 points.

Liam Brandt, Edward Morris, Ben McPhee, Harvey Moore, Daniel Moore and Chris Colombo were amongst the visitors’ best players.

While the win is impressive, the Crocs know their round 11 assignment will be a huge challenge against a Lions side who have been beating teams for fun over the past two months.

Meantime, in FNQ Rugby the Reef Raiders turned in a much-improved performance, scoring three tries in narrowly going down to the Mudcrabs 24-21 at the Crab pot.
