Douglas Shire Council supports local community groups
Major Grants to aid community projects
Following recent support for the Douglas Shire Historical Society, Council is now encouraging other individuals and community groups to apply for their grant program opening in August of this year.
Council’s support aided the Historical Society with five new photo posts throughout the area, installed earlier this year.
By applying for the program eligible groups can receive up to $1000 with a micro grant or between $1000-$10,000 when applying for a major grant.
These options along with sponsorship and in-kind assistance aim to help non-for-profit groups and individuals with a passion to better our community by providing financial aid to help fund projects and reach goals.
Douglas Shire Historical Society (DSHS) spokesperson Pam Willis Burden said that applying for a grant is worth the trouble because if successful, a dream project can be completed.
“As a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers, the Society did not have the funds to have the historical posts made,” she said.
“Filling in the application form was challenging, and thankfully great help was kindly provided by the Council’s Grants Officer.”
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr believes anyone with initiative or an idea for a community project should read the guidelines and apply for the grant.
“Our grants program provides a great opportunity for community members to get funding for projects that make a difference,” he stated.
Through the grants, the Douglas Shire Councils hopes to aid community programs and events that provide cultural, artistic, environmental and economic benefits to our community.
