A large amount of money raised during this year’s Longest Lunch was officially handed over to the Mossman Hospital earlier this week.

The cheque worth $54,375 will see the arrival of six patient monitors at the hospital.

The funds were raised thanks to a Local Collective of hospitality businesses who came together to organise the Longest Lunch with the aim to support local businesses as well as raise funds for the community.

Need for patient monitors

Mr Peter LeGriffon said the money is greatly welcomed to buy six patient monitors.

He explained that the patient monitors will help identify, anticipate and treat patient needs as they arise.

“Catching deterioration in the early stages can mean huge improvements in patient safety and outcomes.

“Patient monitoring is important because it gives us a warning of early or dangerous deterioration of a patient’s health so that we can make the necessary changes in their treatment accordingly.

“Patients and their family members feel comfortable knowing that they are being monitored and will be supported if a problem arises.”

According to Mr Peter LeGriffon the monitors will arrive at the Mossman Hospital in around 5 to 6 weeks.

The Local Collective are looking to hold more fundraising events so watch this space.
