Douglas Shire unites for sweet Gemma as teenager begins fight to kick cancer
DOUGLAS UNITES

A local teenager with a beautiful heart and a renowned reputation for being a shining ambassador for Port Douglas has put her ‘boots on for battle’ as she begins her fight to kick cancer.
Just days ago 17 year-old Lady Douglas Cruises employee Gemma Kilpatrick, who has a passion for the tourism and maritime industries, was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer.
As such a go fund me page has been immediately set up to assist and support Gemma and her family.
In recent days the Douglas community has responded in their droves with hundreds already visiting the page to show their support for the brave teenager.
“Gem’s treatment begins immediately to prevent further implications on her heart, lungs and diaphragm,” co go fund me organiser Lauren Gratas said.
“Large costs are incurred, such as fertility procedures, flights, appropriate clothing, new linens etc.
“Suitable accommodation/relocation is also required at the earliest convenience.”
Gem begins her treatment at Cairns Hospital this Wednesday.
