Fuel $ records
Douglas was among regions of Queensland which had record high fuel prices in 2022, according to RACQ’s Annual Fuel Price Report.
Record highs were reached in the region back in June – 211.6 cents per litre for RULP, while 238.9c was the diesel high. Prices dropped back to 183c average for RULP in December – with the average December diesel price only down a little to 234c.
RACQ’s Dr Ian Jeffreys, said those driving a diesel vehicles felt the brunt of higher fuel costs last year, but 2023 looks a bit brighter.
“We expect oil prices and retail fuel prices to be slightly lower this year compared to 2022, so hopefully motorists will enjoy some relief at the bowser,” he said.
E-scooter crackdown
Police have reminded e-scooter riders in Douglas to closely follow new laws introduced in November or they will have no hesitation in issuing fines.
The Queensland Police Service enforced a record number of fines in the state for riders of e-scooters, with almost 800 Queenslanders and tourists fined for offences including carrying passengers, speeding, riding on prohibited roads and failing to wear a helmet.
Snake bite
Paramedics transported a female child to Mossman Hospital in a stable condition last weekend following a reported snake bite to the leg.
The Queensland Ambulance Service said the girl was transported from a private address at around 7.45pm.
Miss World
Miss World Australia will stage a casting at The Pullman Sea Temple this Thursday January 12, to find potential Far North Queensland contestants to go directly into the Queensland State Final in March.
The event style ‘Meet and Greet’ casting has requirements of an 18 to 27 age range, and entrants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Course vandals
Police have again asked for any witnesses to come forward to a vandalism attack carried out by one or more people in a utility vehicle on two fairways of the Mossman Golf Course in December.
The Club’s caretaker saw a white ute with a driver and passenger tearing up two fairways in the early hours of Sunday, December 18.
A resident of Wonga Beach had also reported a vehicle of the same description later doing burnouts at Wonga Beach and reported it to the Club, which passed on the information to police.
