Douglas Shire to celebrate community achievers and new citizens
AUSTRALIA DAY

Local award winners and new permanent citizens to the area will be formally acknowledged this morning during Australia Day celebrations in the Douglas Shire.
The Free BBQ breakfast kicks off at 7.30am while the official Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony will take place at the Port Douglas Community Hall from 9.30am.
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr has encouraged Douglas Shire residents to take part in and enjoy today’s festivities.
“Australia Day Awards is one of my favourite civic events of the year because we all get to stop and recognise those people who make a real contribution to our community,” Mayor Kerr said.
“As always, we had some incredible names put forward for a 2023 award and we are all very excited to celebrate them.
“The video of the 2022 ceremony was viewed more than 540 times so I am expecting a big turnout from people across the shire.”
Thank you!
