Doing good for society, that is the mission of the Mossman Rotary Club. With a team of 15 hard-working local volunteers, the club is an important pillar in our local community.

By giving back and assisting others our local Rotary Club supports our community, improves it and makes it a better place for all of us to live.

That the club connects our community was shown once again during the recent Australia Day Family Fun Day.

Local families were invited to celebrate Australia Day at the Mossman Pool with a sausage sizzle, live music and plenty of activities for the kids.

This is just one of the annual community events the club organises.

During the yearly Rotary Youth Driver Awareness high-school students are being given a one-day road safety education program.

And with a project called “Food for Thought” the club provides lunches for primary school children in need.

The Beach Clean Up and the Rotary Respite Garden at the Mossman Hospital are also part of the club’s community involvement.

Giving back and building friendships

For Secretary Jan Stokes, Rotary provides an opportunity to give back and to assist others.

“I love to contribute to our local community as well as some of Rotary's International projects while having fun and developing great friendships.

“We have a really tight team and outside of our regular meetings we go out for dinners, have a picnic by the beach or occasionally take a sunset cruise.

“Rotary can make you a better person. The biggest benefit to me is that I've met so many great people through Rotary that I may not have met otherwise.

“These are people that are smart, involved people that it's been my honour to know and work with. I have learned a lot from them.”
