Good sport Jake
Douglas FM sports show kicks off

18-year-old local Jake Black can’t wait for this Saturday. That’s when this motivated young fellow will switch on the microphone in the studios of Douglas FM in Port Douglas and bring local, national and overseas sports news and views to the Shire.
The new Community radio station which only started broadcasting last November is taking the next logical step and launching their own live sports show. Jake is not a ‘grandstand expert’ and actually played under 11’s to under 18’s for the Port Douglas Junior Crocs AFL Football Club and is excited to have been chosen to anchor the new program “I love sport and this is a fantastic opportunity to get deeper into so many of them on the radio” said Jake.
He admits, modesty aside, to knowing a little something about every sport on the planet and can’t wait to report and pass on his views about every single one of them “My Dad who’s also a sports junkie got me interested from 6 years of age when we’d sit in the front of the TV with his mates, so I was hooked from an early age, so the story was written” he said.
Proud as punch
Jake’s Dad is Andre the head chef for Choo Choo’s at the Marina “I’m so proud of my son and the way he has embraced the local sporting community, this is an enormous opportunity for him to contribute further to the community in general,” said Andre. At the same time Jake hopes it will also give local sporting clubs in the Douglas Shire a chance to be heard on the radio and promote themselves “I want all clubs big and small to contact me and tell the listeners about themselves, I mean what a promotional tool for them to use and at no cost” he said.
Starts this week.
The sports show starts this Saturday morning February 18 “People will be able to listen to the sports show and then go about their day with hopefully a smile on their dial and a little more informed about all sorts of sports” said the keen as mustard presenter.
Jake can be heard on Community Station 101.5 Douglas FM from 7am through until 9 am each Saturday morning.
