Quartet to face court after alleged dead cow crime
STEALING CHARGES
Four men have booked a future court appearance with the Mareeba Magistrates Court for alleged stealing offences following a bizarre crime involving an animal in the Tablelands region.
Police alleged four men, a 27-year-old Earlville man, a 34-year-old Mareeba man and two Chillagoe men aged 22 and 26 came across a dead cow carcass near a cattle station at Rookwood on February 9.
Police further allege the quartet then butchered the animal and transported the meat to addresses in Chillagoe.
Police said they later “executed search warrants on numerous homes in Chillagoe, seizing samples of meat for DNA comparison”.
The group will face the Mareeba court on March 13.
