Airlie Beach has one, while another in Cairns attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year.

When stinger season rolls along from November to March, countless tourists, locals, backpackers, cruise attendees and water lovers flock to Cairns’ lagoon pool for a swim in safe, beautiful waters.

But to say swimmers only use Cairns’ lagoon pool during stinger season would be inaccurate, the beautiful facility is used all year round not just when stingers are active in local waters.

And so it is, that 20 years after the discussion first started about the merits of Port Douglas having its own lagoon that two decades later we are still debating if the concept should become a reality.

But genuinely, in light of DSC throwing consultation open to the public – it begs the question; is this the last chance for Douglas Shire residents to seriously throw their support behind a lagoon pool being built in their shire?

Council after Council, year after year, consultation after consultation – it’s enough to give the most ardent lagoon advocate the most serious of everlasting headaches.

Now is the time, however, to make your thoughts and feelings clear by offering your feedback to our Shire about the massive interest in Douglas having its own lagoon pool.

Not just the lagoon pool either – if you’re wanting a splash park in Douglas or another large pool facility now is absolutely the time to make your thoughts clear on the matter.

Put forward your views – because who knows, this may be the last time you’ll seriously get to determine if your shire will be the home of a future lagoon pool or splash park.

You have until March 3 to complete the below online survey.
