Was it a UFO? a magic star? Just what shone brightly recently over the Douglas night skyline?
PLANETS ALIGNED
We’ve witnessed a blood moon and other cool aerial sights in recent times but keen observers enjoying the peaceful evening skyline were treated to a rare spectacle just days ago across the Douglas Shire.
So it was that a number of Douglas Shire residents took to social media saying they had witnessed unusual lights shining brightly in the night time sky.
The answer? no it wasn’t a star or a random UFO off into the horizon causing the commotion but rather dual planets Venus and Jupiter appearing closer than usual to the naked eye from earth – including from different vantage points around our Shire - as they continued an orbit around the sun.
An astronomical expert told Newsport the two planets were about “half a degree apart” during the recent orbit, which provided local astrology fans and random observers alike a unique and rare sight to enjoy on a beautiful clear evening in our Shire.
Did you see this a few days ago?
We’d love to see your photos.
Thank you!
