In one of the more disappointing petty crime developments in recent memory hardworking local Police continue to investigate after the timber donation box at St Mary’s by the Sea was broken into and robbed yesterday morning.

Newsport understands sometime between 8am – 11am on Wednesday morning the offender(s) have broken open the front wooden door of the box and stolen any existing donations.

Local residents have been quick to express their dismay and disappointment regarding the matter.

“I can’t imagine anyone being so heartless and brazen as to steal from a Church,” a local resident expressed to Newsport.

“If anyone saw this could they please inform the Police.

“The Church - which is open every day will be closed while the repair is being done.

“What is happening to our beautiful little town when something like this can happen?

Newsport understands a gift shop at Crystalbrook marina was also recently broken into – however details remain limited about this incident.

It’s unclear whether the two offences are linked.

Newsport has reached out to Douglas Police for comment about the two matters.
