Senior superstars in the spotlight
SENIORS WRAP

Seniors rock our community like no other. They're the true stars who light up our community. Newsport rolls out the red carpet for our local golden agers, because let's face it, they're the coolest cats in town.
YVONNE DRURY; A DEDICATED SENIOR
Ever since Yvonne Drury relocated to Port Douglas more than four years ago, she has been an invaluable local volunteer at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre.

Ms Drury’s main role involves sorting and organising donations in the NikNak Shed, but she is also a helping hand for OzHarvest deliveries and assembling snacks for the dedicated team of volunteers.
For Ms Drury, volunteering is not just a task; it's the very essence that keeps her spirit alive, providing her with a sense of purpose in life. She loves to give, and believes when you give, you get back even more.
In addition to the fulfilling work she does, Ms Drury treasures the friendships she has cultivated with the staff and fellow volunteers. Her volunteer role helped her settle into a new community by meeting wonderful people, and forming new connections.
Ms Drury’s previous volunteer work over the course of her life is nothing short of remarkable and her experience is not to be sneezed at.
With a remarkable 30 years of previous volunteering with organisations like the Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul in NSW, her expertise and dedication are truly commendable.
To anyone contemplating becoming a volunteer, Ms Drury would passionately exclaim that it's the best decision she ever made.
SUN, SEA AND SMILES AT KUBIRRI AGED CARE
Last week, the residents of Kubirri Aged Care Centre embarked on an unforgettable outing to Ellis Beach, immersing themselves in a day of pure joy.
With the sun kissing their skin, the courageous residents dipped their feet into the refreshing waters, followed by a leisurely stroll along the sandy shore, where residents Maggie and Eileen delighted in collecting precious seashells.
Meanwhile, a resident named Rex embarked on an epic adventure of his own at the renowned 'Hook-A-Barra' farm in Wonga Beach.
Accompanied by his NDIS carer, Susan, Rex's passion for fishing reached new heights as he caught a ginormous barramundi.
Rex’s winning fish was so impressive that he even had to ask one of the workers at the farm to help him hold it up, due to the sheer enormity of the fish. As an avid fisherman, Rex had the day of his life.
Whether it’s embracing the beauty of the beach or embarking on a fishing adventure, these moments of joy demonstrate the lively spirit that radiate from the residents of Kubirri Aged Care Centre.
