An invested number of locals offered their feedback, suggestions and constructive criticism on how to rejuvenate and kickstart improvements ahead of next year’s 30th anniversary of Port Douglas Carnivale at today’s community hall public feedback session.

Mark Cox, a marketing strategist from Cox and Co facilitated the session.

Carnivale came under heavy scrutiny and criticism earlier this year from sections of the Douglas Shire community with a range of stakeholders offering ways to improve the 2024 event.

As part of our Carnivale coverage Newsport conducted a poll after the event which asked:

In your opinion has 'Carnivale' lost its lustre and needs improvement or does the festival, in general, remain as good as it's ever been?

In response 81% of readers, or 154 people voted yes to Carnivale needing improvement and feeling tired this year.

We asked our readers how they’d improve next year’s festival and the community responded in their droves to our Newsport Facebook page.

Some of the feedback from our readers included: Bringing back the seafood festival and stalls along the boardwalk, have Santiago selling fresh prawns, more pop bars, music on the boat in the middle of the water, held over two weekends, street performers, affordable food stalls, local music artists, more kids shows, increased performing acts, get local sporting groups involved, hold sporting matches to coincide with event,  more family, community orientated events, make things affordable and improved rock concert prices.

Today's session wrapped up a short time ago.

Thank you!
