Quicksilver appeal to help Douglas Shire families in need this Christmas
GENEROSITY

The Quicksilver Group has relaunched its annual Christmas charity appeal which has a direct purpose to help less fortunate members of the Douglas Shire and other Far North areas during the festive season.
The appeal started in 2004 but has been unable to be held in recent years because of the ongoing impacts of COVID.
With support from industry colleagues, local suppliers and the company’s 490 strong staff, food and gifts will be donated to Salvation Army Cairns, St Vincent De Paul, Cairns and the Douglas Shire Community for their direct distribution to families and individuals in need.
“It has been, and still is a very challenging time for many people and businesses in our region and the charities are in need more than ever,” Quicksilver Group managing director Tony Baker said.
“Every donation will certainly help make Christmas much happier for a lot of families and people. We hope this will make a difference to many in our community.”
A Salvation Army is excited by the initiative.
“Last year we assisted 680 households with Christmas hampers, and with the increase in cost of living, we are expecting the need to be much greater this year," Salvation Army Major Ben Johnson said.
“The donations from this appeal will greatly assist many people who are struggling, to experience a more joyful Christmas, feel valued and celebrate along with the rest of our community."
