TOP TEN LIST: Newsport’s most read stories of the year – No 8, 7,6
NUMBER EIGHT, SEVEN AND SIX

NUMBER 8
Our Eighth most read story of the year was our drone story showing an empty Port Douglas marina prior to the arrival of Cyclone Jasper.

NUMBER 7
CROC TALES
For our seventh most read story of the year we head back to March to talk about one of the Shire’s most beloved creatures – the saltwater crocodile.
A Newsport reader contacted us to recall her experience with a pesky crocodile that the reader believed kept a close watch on her.
The reader suggested a crocodile was hanging around in the drain way before the culvert which runs under Ulysses Avenue. The reader said the crocodile seemed to be keeping a close eye on passers-by in the area and that it was once again a good lesson for all to be croc wise in our region.

NUMBER 6
CAPE TRIB DANGEROUS BEACH
Newsport readers had a good chuckle earlier in the year when some clever person dubbed our very own Cape Trib beach the most dangerous in the world.
Yep, our very own beach, in our very own backyard was dubbed the world’s most dangerous beach.
How very humorous… Why of course with all those sand flies, mosquitoes and terrible sunshine is it any wonder it gained this title. We joke, we joke.
None other than Weather.com operated by The Weather Company, a weather forecasting and information technology company gave this honour to Cape Trib beach.
They claimed that because of the “lethal jellyfish, venomous snakes, crocodiles and potentially deadly cassowaries” that inhabit the waters and rainforest surrounds of the Cape Trib beach area is why it gained the title as the world’s most dangerous beach.
