Age no barrier to Reef
BIG BUSINESS

He’s only seven years of age but Reef Lourigan of Cooya Beach is already an entrepreneur.
His own fruit salad bar and sometimes lemonade stand is now the talk of that community.
Reef's Mum Tahnee told Newsport her son had a penny drop moment.
“Yeah one morning he woke up and started squeezing lemons from a tree we have here at home and suggested he set up a stand to sell the juice,” Tahnee explained.
At only $1 a cup he did exceptional business amongst the locals. It takes me back to my childhood when I set up a lemonade stand out front of my home in Sydney. Like Reef’s enterprise, business was brisk, but I didn’t think kids did that anymore. Reef's revival of an ‘oldie but a goodie’ has the pocket money flowing in.
Reef had his lightbulb moment after he saw another fruit being sold in our Shire.
“I saw the bananas being sold on the roadside where you put the coin in the box and thought I have plenty of lemons so why not make lemonade and sell it for a dollar,” Reef said.
He’s been joined in this beachside budding business by best mate, six-year-old Dusty, from down the road, who obviously recognises an opportunity when it’s staring him in the face. Seems he and Reef are now business partners. The good people of Cooya have supported the kid’s roadside commerce and in one day the boys raked in $100.
When Newsport visited it was fruit salad for four dollars and a buck extra for custard. Pretty healthy right? And the lemon juice and all that vitamin C can go a long way to keeping you free of coughs and colds. Please note Reef this is called MARKETING.
You can find the boys at 95 Bougainvillea St, Cooya Beach on the first Saturday of the month. Seriously though it warms my heart to know that some kids today do have a sense of purpose and want to earn their own money instead of always asking mum and dad for it.
For Reef and Dusty, it’s Cooya Beach today, tomorrow the world.
