YOU BEAUTY: TMR boss reaffirms Captain Cook Highway remains on track to re-open between Douglas and Cairns this Saturday
EDGING CLOSER

In a huge boost to Douglas Shire morale a TMR operative has reaffirmed the Captain Cook Highway is still set to re-open between Port Douglas and Cairns to Douglas Shire motorists and all other traffic from this Saturday at 8AM.
“The Captain Cook Highway is still on track to open this Saturday as planned, barring any major rain events or other issues,” Transport and Main Roads Regional Manager Ross Hodgeman said a short time ago.
"As is stands we had 103 separate slips on the highway (following the unprecedented December rain event) to which we have worked on 94 of them.
“There is currently 27km worth of roadworks taking place along the highway.”
Some parts of the journey will be single lane and controlled by traffic lights or traffic controllers.
Despite the impending opening motorists are reminded they will experience delays and to plan their journeys accordingly.
The future re-opening of the highway is a huge step in the region welcoming back tourists and revitalising the local economy.
