With next Tuesday’s deadline fast approaching a host of hopeful candidates have moved to confirm their intention to run for Council at next month’s Douglas Shire local Government elections.

As it stands the Queensland Electoral Commission has received 11 separate Councillor nominations ranging from candidates hopeful of re-election to new applicants keen to make a difference.

Those still interested in lodging their submission can do so until next Tuesday, 12pm.

Current sitting Councillors Roy Zammataro, Peter McKeown and Abigail Noli are each seeking re-election.

Newsport can confirm David Haratsis, Jeremy Blockey, Damian Meadows, Chris Barber, Terry Melchert, Michael Joseph, Bill Allison and Sara Mulcahy have confirmed their intention to run for Council.

Still no word from potential candidates Pia McKeown and Brooke Nikora as to whether each intends to lodge a late nomination ahead of next week’s nomination deadline.

Meantime, as of today, Thursday, 1.27PM Lisa Scomazzon remains the only candidate to officially lodge a mayoral nomination.

Some speculation remains that current mayor Michael Kerr might still surprise and lodge a late bid for re-election tomorrow or early next week.

Official Councillor nominations: Roy Zammataro, Peter McKeown, Abigail Noli, David Haratsis, Jeremy Blockey, Damian Meadows, Chris Barber, Terry Melchert, Michael Joseph, Bill Allison and Sara Mulcahy. Mayor: Lisa Scomazzon
