Over the past six months the Douglas Shire and wider Far North community has endured one of the toughest periods in the region’s history.

The lasting impacts from Jasper and the ensuing flood events caused unprecedented damage; Douglas roads were torn to shreds, businesses were flooded, houses wiped out and natural landslides caused chaos.

If that isn’t enough Douglas Shire’s water security was severely compromised, residents were forced to drink bottled water and have limited showers. On top of that, the Shire’s residents have encountered six months of ongoing water restrictions.

Today, in an exclusive sit down interview, Newsport editor Michael Warren speaks with QLD Water Minister Glenn Butcher, in which, during our conversation he addressed:

  • Who’s responsible for the most catastrophic water security failure in the history of the Douglas Shire
  • Reveals whether the State Government abandoned Douglas Shire residents in their time of need
  • Discusses how Douglas Shire Council found themselves in this predicament re severe water issues

And, lastly, Mr Butcher makes an exclusive, special announcement for Newsport readers and Douglas Shire residents.
