This round of the Go for Gold fund prioritised investment in rural and remote locations, where enhanced or new infrastructure would increase active pathways in communities that may experience barriers to student participation rates in sport.

The Miles Government has invested almost $100M for upgrades and refurbishments to sporting infrastructure and equipment across 744 schools, as Queensland’s future Olympians and Paralympians prepare for Brisbane 2032.

The eight schools allocated funds through the program included:

Kuranda District State College $2.654M Mossman State School $2.408M, Trinity Bay State High School $2.258M, Yarrabah State School $2.550M, Bentley Park College $3.975M, Cairns West State School $5.340M, Thursday Island Secondary $4.880M, White Rock State School $4.760M.

“The school kids of today will be the athletes of tomorrow and to help them thrive, we’re investing in new sports infrastructure and equipment,” Cook MP Cynthia Lui told Newsport.

“The Tagai State College campus on Thursday Island will use this funding to upgrade its multipurpose court and the Mossman State School will have one of the best tennis facilities in the Far North.

“As we head towards Brisbane 2032, we want to support our young athletes to Go for gold at what will be the best Games ever.”
