HOOKED WITH HEFF: Postcard fishing
COLUMN

We have just come off the back of picture postcard conditions and the fishing has been exceptional inshore and offshore. Probably it's been the best string of days we've seen up here in a long time.
The reef fishing powered on all cylinders with all the main target species up for grabs with what is expected for this time of year.
There's a pecking order to fish ratings but the top handful delivered including coral trout 5kg, red emperor 7kg, large mouth nannygai 8kg, spanish mackerel 12kg, cod 10kg and golden trevally 7kg.
All solid fish within their own department and the reef fishing will continue to provide well with the next best spell of weather early next week.
The days have warmed up overnight quickly so slip, slop, slap your sunscreen and hydrate accordingly.
Inshore the Daintree River is the only place to be chartering with barramundi 80cm, queenfish 95cm and fingermark 60cm leading the charge. Interestingly the better fishing is approaching the the neap tides for the moment. You can't beat the Daintree River on the doorstep of arguably our most precious fishing commodity as a National Park World Heritage Listing.
The town seems to be gathering momentum as we approach our most reliable weather period, so look us up if you're keen to wet a line and have a great experience.
