Queensland LNP leader promises $12.5 million boost for Mossman sugarcane industry ahead of elections
ELECTION COMMITMENT

Ahead of the upcoming state elections on November 26, Queensland LNP leader David Crisafulli has announced a proposed $12.5 million support package, should his party win the elections.
During a press conference at the Rural Press Club in Brisbane, Crisafulli outlined that the funding would allocate $6 million to ensure the viability of the 2025 sugarcane crop in Mossman.
The additional $6 million would be directed towards improving productivity, retrofitting the local mill, and attracting new investors.
Crisafulli also assured that a guarantee would be established to ensure next year’s crop could be transported and processed at Mulgrave Mill.
CANEGROWERS welcomed Crisafulli's commitment, with CEO Dan Galigan recognising that despite a substantial funding package released by the current government in February to assist with transporting this year's crop to be crushed at MSF’s Mulgrave Mill near Cairns, uncertainty lingers for the 2025 crop without a reliable crushing guarantee.
“CANEGROWERS has never stopped fighting to save the sugarcane industry in Mossman,” he said.
“We have been working diligently behind the scenes, engaging with local councillors, politicians, business leaders, and government officials from both sides.
“Mossman has a long and proud cane-growing history, and we are determined to do everything possible to ensure it continues.”
