Local business recognised by SES for efforts during Cyclone Jasper
COMMUNITY SUPPORT

In times of disaster, a community's true spirit shines. During the Cyclone Jasper floods. Douglas Shire residents united to support one another, with Newell Beach Takeaway and Café recognised by the SES for its significant contributions.
During the cyclone’s subsequent flooding a dozen members of the SES found themselves stranded due to road closures.
Thankfully Newell Beach takeaway opened their doors to support the volunteers until they were able to continue supporting our region in its disaster recovery.
Such acts of kindness underscore the resilience and unity of the community in times of crisis, and they have not gone unnoticed. Due to their support efforts Newell Beach Takeaway and Café were granted a certificate of appreciation from the SES recognising the help they provided during the flooding event.
Peter Capp, owner of Newell Beach Takeaway, expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
“We did our best to accommodate and feed them while they were here,” Mr Capp said.
“Everyone must pitch in and do their part. Although we were closed, we had the ability to help, so we did.
“The last thing we expected was any sort of recognition. We just did it because we were here and we were able to.”
