Wujal Wujal man found guilty of strangulation charges

A 21-year-old Wujal Wujal man who pleaded guilty to the strangulation of the mother of his children until she felt dizzy, and couldn’t breathe, has received a three-year sentence.
Lyndon Reginald Peter Creek, who was convicted of a range of domestic violence charges, will be eligible for parole in July after already serving close to a year in jail.
The charges included three counts of assault and one of strangulation.
The court heard the former council worker repeatedly punched his partner in the head in a Cairns hotel room in early 2024 before wrapping a power cord around her neck and pulling it tightly.
As the woman gasped for breath, she managed to fit two fingers under the cord, causing him to stop.
Feeling dizzy, she went to the bathroom, and Creek trapped her in there, the court heard.
When she tried to escape he then threatened her with a knife and pushed and kicked her.
She eventually escaped and drove herself to hospital, where she was treated for scratching and bruising.
The incident happened at a time when Creek was on a suspended sentence for other domestic-violence attacks, including with a chair.
